Designing Nymi
I was brought in the Engineering Validation Test (EVT) phase when a rudimentary design had been developed.

I led the design detailing, ergonomic study and prototyping in conjunction with the hardware team. At this phase the initial PCBA was designed, and I was in charge of the assembly sequence and fitment of the same. This would allow for translation of the sequence in the manufacturing and assembly line.
Anthropometric data was collected for wrist sizes and 3D printed wrist profiles were used to home in the strap length.
At this phase, we also evaluated cleaning specifications that Nymi had to pass at our customer sites.

I cracked my knuckles and got to work. 😊
Along with a mechanical engineering partner, the hardware and product team, we decided to change the initial ID and tweak the dimensions that would allow for the hardware team to pack the PCBA (I was literally going to battle for 0.1 mm) and also would be comfortable for the user to wear for over 8 hours.
The bezel was redesigned to meet the ESD requirement of the Fingerprint Sensor (FPS) and the manufacturing constraints.
At this stage we started exploring materials that would meet the biocompatibility requirements we have set for the band.
The CMF package was also prepared at this phase.

Here lies the place where my sleep took a vacation.
We faced a lot of issues - plastic molding concerns, part quality coming from the manufacturing partner (Guangzhou), streamlining the assembly line at the factory (Batam) and a lot of debugging after we ran the bands through reliability testing.
I was stationed in Batam for weeks setting up the assembly line and debugging manufacturing issues.
Here lies the place where my sleep took a vacation.

While in Batam, the assembly line was established and personnel were trained in band assembly. They were also instructed on Quality Assessment criteria.
